Frequently Asked Questions

Through years of research, Mistbox has developed a custom water treatment system to ensure the fine mist won't damage your AC unit. The patent pending process kills bacteria on contact and treats metal surfaces to make algae or mold growth an impossibility. Also, dissolved solids (hardness) in the water is neutralized so hardness cannot tightly adhere to the condenser fins. The Mistbox filters have been designed to work with municipal water anywhere in the continental US. Though our method works with many international water supplies, please consult Mistbox before using outside the US.

In short, yes. While humidity does have an effect on savings, Mistbox users should expect to see an efficiency boost between 20-38%. The lower end of that range occurs in mild, humid climates while those in hot, dry climates could expect to save more. While their efficiency might be lower, many customers in humid climates run their AC almost year round. In such cases, users still save a lot due to how much AC they use. The more you spend on AC, the higher your potential savings.

Mistbox has a web app that can be used on desktop, as well as IOS and Android devices. We do plan to eventually add native IOS and Android apps, however, the web app contains all functionality currently.

Yes, you can cancel at anytime. There is no cancellation fee, however, you will be required to return the hardware.

Of course. Mistbox has been used in commercial applications across the globe. Contact us at sales@mistbox.com for more information.

Because the nozzles broadcast such a fine mist, only runs when conditions are right, water isn't wasted. In almost every case, you're trading pennies in water for dollars in energy savings.

When you consider traditional sources of power generation, Mistbox is often actually saving water when the entire picture is considered. In many cases, Mistbox uses less water to save a kWh of electricity, than the power company uses to produce a kWh at a power plant.

  • Installation

Yes, Mistbox is universally compatible to fit any residential size AC unit. The tubing between Mistbars can be adjusted to correctly fit the circumference of your unit. For units larger than 5 tons, please let us know so we can include additional tubing.

You'll need a dedicated Mistbox for each AC unit. This is because Mistbox is designed to sense when the unit is running and optimize its misting schedule to that particular unit. As different units have different schedules, each needs its own Mistbox to efficiently maximize savings and avoid waste.

Mistbox will alert you through the app when your filter needs to be replaced, however, we'll also be automatically shipping a replacement filter right to your door. Swapping cartridges out takes only a few seconds.

Yes, Mistbox works on heat pumps during the summer when they are used for cooling. However, when heat pumps are used for heating in cold conditions, Mistbox won't operate as outdoor ambient temperature is too low.

If you do not have a municipal water supply, we do not recommend using Mistbox. The Mistbox water treatement system has been designed to work with municipal water supplies that follow EPA guidelines, however, we cannot guarantee water treatment results with well water. Sediment and dissolved metals often found in well water can impact the effectiveness of our water treatement system.

Though not necessary, our water treatment system can be used with softened water.

Yes, Mistbox has a built in valve to control water usage. The water pressure of your home will not be affected as the misting requires very little flow even while in operation.

If your water supply is not near your AC, you can run a water line to the area from the nearest outdoor faucet. We sell reasonably priced 30-ft UV-tolerant supply lines for use in these cases. This line can be buried as well if you so choose.

We generally recommend that you take Mistbox down if a hard freeze is expected. The bracket system makes this process painless. See our Help Center for detailed instructions on winterization.
